1.  LARKIN NELSON MARTIN  (JOSIAH S., JOHN, WILLIAM DAVID) was born January 22, 1895 in Madisonville, TN, and died December 31, 1916 in Marysville, TN.  He married REVEREND ETTA LUTICIA BRASHER October 01, 1913 in Madisonville, TN, daughter of THOMAS BRASHER and MARY WARWICK.  She was born July 24, 1883 in Mt. Holly, Union County, AR, and died June 11, 1950 in Knoxville, TN.

Notes for REVEREND ETTA LUTICIA BRASHER:

Etta and Ida were fraternal twins.  Etta was tall and lean and Ida wa s short and stocky.  Etta Luticia Brasher first married a man with nam ed William Marvin Durham.  From this union were produced Thomas and Ru by Durham.  Etta didn't raise these children, and they were farmed ou t to others to be raised.   There was a man named Nelson, who was a pi anist.  He played for Etta as she preached.  They fell in love and mar ried.  Then she married a Larkin Nelson Martin with whom she had Ida E lizabeth Martin.  Ida Elizabeth Martin was raised mainly by Liz Marti n Cook Rodrick until she became ill.  After this, the two moved in Wit h Aunt Annie, and the children she was raising from her sister.  Afte r Liz Rodrick's death, Aunt Annie finished raising Elizabeth (along wi th the Harris family).   After Larkin's death in 1916 from pneumonia, she married William Harvey Redwine (who is from Knoxville.  His funera l was actually held in Knoxville, but because Etta was buried at Chest ua, that is where he chose to be buried.)  She had quite a few jobs. One was a traveling evangelist/minister, another with a political comp any and later on in her life a seamstress.  Elizabeth had a feeling sh e needed to see her mother, so she sold an insurance policy and caugh t a bus to Vensiance, IN (where Ron was born).  When Liz got there sh e found out her mother was sick and was going into the hospital the ne xt day.  They found out she had Uterine cancer.  Etta only lived a fe w days after her

REVEREND ETTA LUTICIA BRASHER  (THOMAS EDWARD, TALTON, WILLIAM HIRAM, AQUILLA, THOMAS L. BRAZIER, THOMAS BRAZIER, WILLIAM B. BRASHIER SR.) was born July 24, 1883 in Mt. Holly, Union County, AR, and died June 11, 1950 in Knoxville, TN.  She married (1) WILLIAM MARVIN DURHAM July 30, 1901.  He was born Abt. 1879, and died November 27, 1907 in Sutton, Nevada Co, AR.  He was the son of Noah G.  

She married (2) LARKIN NELSON MARTIN October 01, 1913 in Madisonville, TN, son of JOSIAH MARTIN and MARTHA COOK.  He was born January 22, 1895 in Madisonville, TN, and died December 31, 1916 in Marysville, TN.  

She married (3) HARVEY REDWINE September 13, 1926 in Knoxville, TN.  He was born May 02, 1870, and died October 24, 1951 in Knoxville, TN.

Wedding Wednesday: Cicero & Clara Mischke Herzog

Pictured above are my maternal Great-grandparents, Cicero Eric & Clara Fredericka Mischke Herzog.  They were married September 03, 1918 in Yakima, Washington.  Cicero was the son of George & Sarah (Outlaw) Herzog and Clara was the daughter of Frank & Anna (Topfer) Mischke.

Papa Herzog

Tall and strong, there he stood,

Beside the forge, tongs in hand,

As flames belched below the hood,

Softening by heat the iron band

That was to become a shoe, good

For the horse waiting in the stand.

As the color changed from red to white,

The smithy plucked the iron out,

Clamped in tongs and held tight

Then placed on anvil and turned about

For hammer to shape both left and right

Ends of the loop, fit but stout.

As he worked, so he lived a life apart,

Strong and firm, he was nature’s man.

Beneath that hardiness was tender heart,

Waiting for maiden fair, the flame to fan.

Two hearts drew near, though poles apart,

Mama Herzog

God put Mama here many years ago,

To bring joy and comfort to other souls.

She gave Him her heart when young, and so,

She served Him well whatever His goals.

Mama met Papa and fell in love,

Then she won him to the Lord.

The two became one ‘neath heaven above,

Together she prayed and read His word.

In God’s love they raised their family,

There were six of us in all;

But God called one an angel to be,

The others remained to wait His call.

Papa went home in nineteen-sixty one,

He’d raised his family on God’s word.

With hard work and love for every one,

He taught them to love and serve the Lord.

Mama went up home on the Lord’s Day,

That wonderful Mama of mine.

Now she can hear angels sing and play.

There couldn’t have been a better time.

Wisdom Wednesday: Grandma's German Lullaby

Great Grandma Clara Fredericka Mischke Herzog used to sing to her children a German Lullaby.  It was passed down through to her children, her grandchildren, and now I, her Great-Grandchild have passed it onto our boys before putting them to bed (they are now 18, 16 and 13).   Unfortunately, Grandma Herzog died when I was 17 months old (and had moved to Tennessee when I was 10 months old) after a stroke, so I never got to hear her tender, german voice.  But just know that her legacy, wisdom and traditions are still being held today!

The second verse goes as follows:  If I evil done today.  Take it father all the way.  Now look down in tender love.  Guide in, protect us from above.  Sorry it isn't pictured, but this is how the paper is.
